Fermin Lopez: 'We're champions, and that's what matters'
Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez has downplayed the disappointment of Sunday night's 3-2 loss to Villarreal at the Olympic Stadium, reminding fans that the club have already secured the La Liga title.
Speaking after the match, the 22-year-old admitted that Villarreal were worthy opponents but reiterated that Barcelona’s focus remains on their overall achievement this season.
“I think Villarreal played a good match. Congratulations to them, but we are the champions,” Fermin said.
The midfielder scored a goal in the first half, briefly giving Barcelona hope, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win.
“I’m happy with the goal even though it didn’t help. We wanted to get one more win. The important thing is that we’ve won the league, and that’s that,” he added.
Despite the defeat, Hansi Flick's side still have one game left to play in the season, away to Athletic Club on May 25, before officially closing out a campaign that saw them claim the La Liga title, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup.
