Hansi Flick: 'It's not about perfection - it's about progress'
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has shared his thoughts following the 3-2 home defeat to Villarreal on Sunday, which came just before the La Liga champions were scheduled to lift the trophy in front of their fans at Montjuic.
Despite the disappointing result on the pitch, Flick focused on the positives of the season and praised his players for their hard work and connection with the supporters.
“I told the players that they deserve this celebration,” Flick said in his post-match interview with DAZN. “You could feel the connection with the fans throughout the whole season, and the way the team played helped build that connection. The parade was incredible — and for me, as a German, it was unbelievable,” he added with a laugh.
The German manager went on to highlight the progress the team has made since his arrival. “We saw a lot of potential in this team and thought there were things we could improve. The players have shown how good they are on the ball. Whether you’re a footballer or just a person — when you have confidence, anything is possible.”
Flick pointed to a key turning point in the season: “In every training session, you can see how much they enjoy improving. For me, the most important match was the one against Atletico. We lost, but we played very well, and that’s when we started to come out of that tough run in November. It helped us keep believing. De Jong came back, Gavi returned — we kept getting better, and now we can celebrate.”
Looking ahead, Flick admitted the challenge remains high. “Next season, we might have to work even harder to win titles. It’s not about perfection — it’s about progress.”
