Milan forward Gimenez is sent off in 21st minute for elbowing Mancini in chest during Roma match
Milan forward Santiago Gimenez was sent off in the 21st minute of the match against Roma. Roma are leading Milan 1–0 at home in Matchday 37 of Serie A. Gianluca Mancini opened the scoring in the 3rd minute.
In the 20th minute, behind referee Marco Piccinini’s back, Gimenez elbowed Mancini in the chest during a challenge, causing the Italian defender to fall to the ground.
The referee did not see the incident. VAR suggested that he review the situation for a potential red card. Piccinini went to the monitor and then sent off the 24-year-old Mexican striker.
This was Santiago’s first appearance in the starting lineup since March 15. Since joining from Feyenoord, he has scored 6 goals and provided 3 assists in 19 matches for Milan.
