Former Barcelona and France midfielder Emmanuel Petit has shared his thoughts on Xabi Alonso’s move to Real Madrid, where the 43-year-old is set to take over as head coach this summer.
"Xabi knows exactly what it means to manage Real Madrid. He’s aware of the immense pressure on him and the players. Ancelotti knew from the start this squad was unbalanced. They’ve missed Kroos, Modric, and other key midfielders this season.
"Xabi understands Real Madrid must do serious work in the transfer market across multiple positions, so he needs guarantees," Petit said.
Alonso, fresh off Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten treble in 2023/24, will face challenges with Madrid’s aging squad and defensive injuries, requiring reinforcements to compete in La Liga and the Champions League.
