Reports in England suggest that Man City actually pulled out of the race to sign Wirtz, citing the high cost of the transfer.
However, this report claims it was Wirtz who turned down Man City as he prefers to play for Bayern.
Wirtz will cost Bayern around €150m with his salary for five years circling around the same figure.
Wherever he eventually ends up, getting Wirtz will be an expensive piece of business this summer.
