'We recognise a club like Chelsea needs a 65,000 stadium': Todd Boehly

Chelsea remain in ongoing discussions over whether to redevelop Stamford Bridge or relocate entirely, as the club seeks to expand its stadium capacity to meet long-term ambitions.

The current 40,341-seat Stamford Bridge has been deemed insufficient for a club of Chelsea's stature, with Mayor of London Sadiq Khan reportedly informing the club that the stadium is now 'too small' for its growing fanbase and global profile.

Co-owner Todd Boehly is believed to favour a move to a new site in Earl’s Court, while fellow co-owner Hansjorg Wyss has openly stated that relocating would be 'the best option' for the Blues. However, the proposed move still faces significant logistical and planning challenges, and no final decision has been made.

Speaking about the club’s stadium plans, Boehly underlined the importance of increased capacity for Chelsea’s future competitiveness.

"We recognise a club like Chelsea needs a 65,000 stadium. We also recognise that's going to be important to be able to compete long term. We'll figure it out."
