'I'm devastated': James Maddison on missing Europa League Final
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison has expressed his heartbreak at missing the Europa League final through injury, admitting it’s been tough watching from the sidelines on such a huge occasion.
Speaking to TNT Sports ahead of the clash against Manchester United, Maddison said:
"Of course, it's difficult. You can feel the atmosphere here already, these are the games you want to be involved in the big European nights. I'm devastated to miss out.
"I feel like had a good European campaign and was a big part of it. But to get to the final hurdle, and not be involved, it's difficult.
"But the last few days, it's been putting that aside and just being there for the lads as one of the senior players and try to get them in the best place.
"As soon as I found out that the season was going to be over, the first thing the manager said to me was be upset, have your moment to be sad and then get around the group as quickly as possible.
"He knows I'm an older player now, I'm not one of the young ones anymore - especially in our group. So he knows I can have an effect off the pitch and the lads respect me," James has shared.
