Arsenal assistant sporting director Jason Ayto to depart club ahead of summer transfer window - BBC
Arsenal will be losing a key figure from their leadership team as assistant sporting director Jason Ayto is set to leave the club, according to BBC.
Ayto, who has spent nearly a decade at the Emirates Stadium, announced his decision to step down earlier this year, with the news shared internally with staff last Friday. He rose through the ranks at Arsenal and became an essential part of the club’s sporting operations, especially during the transformative period under manager Mikel Arteta.
After serving under former sporting director Edu, Ayto was promoted to interim sporting director following Edu’s departure in November. However, in April, Andrea Berta was appointed as Edu’s full-time successor and has since taken charge of recruitment and contractual matters.
Despite being considered a strong candidate to succeed Edu permanently, Ayto will now be moving on from Arsenal. He played a significant role in Arsenal’s recent progress and was influential behind the scenes in key transfers, including negotiations for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who is expected to arrive this summer.
