Cesc Fabregas declines Bayer Leverkusen job; Erik ten Hag and another candidate in the running
According to Kicker, Cesc Fabregas has decided to stay at Como 1907 and will not take the coaching job at Bayer Leverkusen. The Spaniard declined the club’s offer, leaving Erik ten Hag as the clear favourite to become Leverkusen’s new manager.
Fabregas, who helped Como return to Serie A, will continue in his role as coach and part-owner of the Italian club. Despite multiple discussions with Bayer Leverkusen’s management, including CEO Fernando Carro and sporting director Simon Rolfes, Fabregas chose to maintain his commitment to Como.
While Bayer Leverkusen have reportedly reached a preliminary agreement with ten Hag, the club is still considering a third, unnamed candidate for the managerial position. The final decision on the new coach is expected soon as Leverkusen aim to confirm the appointment ahead of the upcoming season.
Erik ten Hag, who recently managed Manchester United, is now the leading contender to succeed Xabi Alonso, following Alonso’s successful campaign leading Leverkusen to the Bundesliga title last season.
