Pau Cubarsi to miss Under-21 Euros due to physical exhaustion

Mundo Deportivo reports that Pau Cubarsi, the 18-year-old Barcelona defender, is set to miss the upcoming Under-21 European Championship this June after the Nations League, as concerns over his physical condition have led to a cautious approach. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) had considered including Cubarsi in coach Santi Denia’s squad amid difficulties filling the roster due to clashes with the Club World Cup.

Cubarsi has endured an exhausting season, having taken part in the European Championship preparations last summer, competed in the Olympic Games, and established himself as a key starter under Hansi Flick at Barcelona. However, a recent intestinal virus caused him to lose three kilos during a crucial week with fixtures against Inter and Real Madrid, leaving him physically drained.

Both Barcelona’s medical staff and the RFEF agree that Cubarsi needs rest to recover fully. With his progression to Spain’s senior national team, his time with the Under-21s is considered over, making rest a priority.

His absence opens the door for other young Barcelona talents, but all eyes remain on Cubarsi’s recovery as he prepares for a more significant role in Spain’s senior setup.
