Barca Atletic relegated to fourth tier despite last-minute win on final day
Barcelona’s B team, Barca Atletic, suffered relegation from Spain’s third tier despite winning their last game of the season 2-1 against Unionistas de Salamanca.
Sergi Mila’s side staged a late comeback to claim the three points after falling behind early. Alan Godoy equalised before Diego Percan scored a dramatic winner in the 89th minute.
For a brief moment, the victory looked like it would secure their survival, as Osasuna B were losing to Ourense in another key fixture. However, heartbreak followed when Osasuna B scored a 96th-minute equaliser, confirming Barca Atletic’s relegation.
Mila, who took charge in February following Albert Sanchez’s departure, was unable to turn around a tough season for the side.
Now, Juliano Belletti is widely expected to take over managerial duties after a strong campaign with Barcelona’s Under-19s, with the goal of leading Barca Atletic back to the higher division next season.
The relegation marks a difficult end to a challenging campaign for the Blaugrana’s development squad.
