Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas: ‘Our fans don’t deserve an ending like this’
Barcelona Femeni midfielder Alexia Putellas has spoken after their 1-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Women’s Champions League final.
“Congratulations to Arsenal,” Putellas said. “In the first half we didn’t find our rhythm. In the second half, a little better, but what was helping us create chances was being close to each other, and we didn’t manage that. We had some approaches, but it was our own fault.”
She added, “They made a good plan, but I think we were not at our level and we couldn’t find ourselves. We didn’t know how to do what we had been doing and they beat us.”
Putellas also addressed the team’s supporters: “I want to say to our fans that it hurts us a lot because of the work we have done all year, but especially because of them. They don’t deserve an ending like this. Tomorrow we will try again.”
