Kylian Mbappe has become the first player since Lionel Messi to score at least 30 goals in a single La Liga season after netting twice in Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad.

The French striker opened the scoring in the 38th minute by converting the rebound after missing a penalty. He then secured the win with a precise finish seven minutes before full-time. Mbappe’s goals not only secured the three points for Real Madrid but also saw him make history as the first player to score over 30 goals in their debut La Liga campaign for the club.

Mbappe’s achievement puts him in elite company alongside Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, with the last Real Madrid player to reach this milestone being Ronaldo during the 2014-15 season. This season, Mbappe leads the Pichichi Trophy race as La Liga’s top scorer, ahead of Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski, who has 25 goals.

Mbappe is only the fourth player in La Liga history to score 30 or more goals in their debut season, joining legendary forwards Pruden, Romario, and Ronaldo Nazario.
