Monaco prefer loan move for Ansu Fati with option to buy in 2026 – reports
Barcelona forward Ansu Fati is in talks with French side AS Monaco over a potential move this summer, with the Ligue 1 outfit preferring an initial loan agreement, according to ESPN.
The 22-year-old has struggled for minutes at the Catalan club this season, making just three starts. Despite being under contract at Camp Nou until 2027, Barcelona are open to parting ways with the forward, whether temporarily or permanently, as they prepare for squad changes ahead of the new campaign.
Sources indicate that Monaco’s proposal includes a loan deal with an option to make the move permanent in 2026. The French club are able to offer Champions League football next season — something that reportedly appeals to Fati, who is said to be open to the idea of making the switch.
Fati first burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old in 2019, quickly emerging as one of the most promising talents in world football. However, a series of injuries disrupted his development, eventually leading to a loan spell at Premier League side Brighton last season.
After returning to Barcelona last summer, Fati was given another chance to impress but has found regular game time hard to come by under Flick. With the club now targeting attacking reinforcements — including Liverpool’s Luis Diaz and Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford — space in the squad is expected to open up.
Barcelona close out their season against Athletic Club on Sunday, having already secured La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Supercopa in Flick’s first year in charge.
