History repeats itself: Suarez tends to start the new season slowly but improves eventually
- The Uruguayan has scored three goals and provided three assists since the beginning of the 2018/2019 campaign
- However, he is still widely criticised by the fans and media
- He won't join his national team for the upcoming friendlies because of a knee issue
Luis Suarez has been widely criticised of late, however, his situation is far from being disastrous as it may seem. The Uruguay international had the same amount of goals by this exact time last season - three goals and three assists. Moreover, he missed three games because of a knee injury in the autumn of 2017.
History repeats itself: Suarez is once again struggling from a discomfort in his right knee and will follow a specific training plan, according to FC Barcelona official website. RAC1 reported that Suarez has received a knock during the Champions League game against Tottenham Hotspur in London.
Official statement from Barcelona:— Enock Kobina Essel (@firminorob39) October 8, 2018
"During the next few days, Luis Suárez will follow a specific work pattern of muscle building and injury prevention to resolve the discomfort he has in his right knee." pic.twitter.com/0jqnztfDSE
Moreover, Suarez hasn't joined the Uruguay national team for the upcoming set of friendlies. He did the same last year, by the way as he skipped both October's and November international breaks. He stayed in Barcelona and trained hard enough to improve his performance.
And he managed to do so in the best possible way! Last season, he scored at least once in every goal for EIGHT weeks: between December 2 and January 28. In total, he netted 31 goals in 51 matches in all competitions in the 2017/2018 season alone. By the way, Suarez's Barca exploits earned him a nomination for the Ballon d'Or award.
Do you believe Suarez could improve his goalscoring rate this time?
