Rumours: Nabil Fekir is closely monitored by Chelsea
- Chelsea are rumoured to be interested in Lyon's midfielder Nabil Fekir
- The Frenchman is tied down with his current club until 2020
- Sarri reportedly made a personal call to Fekir to convince him of joining Chelsea
- Lyon president is now eager to begin the contract talks with the player
Lyon is in a hurry to discuss Nabil Fekir's new deal "before the holidays" amid rumours that the player is highly sought by Chelsea and Bayern Munich, French outlet Le Progres reports.
According to the outlet, Lyon president, Jean-Michel Aulas is set to meet with Fekir in future days, as the club doesn't normally allow players to "leave so close to the end of their contract." The French side intend to upgrade the players' current deal that runs out in 2020.
Earlier this season, Spanish media El Gol Digital claimed that Chelsea boss Sarri personally phoned Nabi Fekir to assure him that the Blues are very much interested in the player.
According to the source, the Italian said to Fekir that he "will be regarded as one of the most important players at the club should he link up with the west Londoners." However, El Gol Digital is not a very reliable source, so their insights should be taken with a grain of salt.
Also, L'Equipe has reported that the Lyon star will not sign a new contract with the club and that has alerted Chelsea. According to The Sun, the Blues are ready to launch a move at the end of the season. And now Sarri allegedly is doing the legwork for the possible deal.
25-year old French midfielder scored four goals and completed four assists in his 10 matches this season. Having only played 803 minutes, he's directly contributing to a goal every 100 minutes or so, a slightly higher frequency than last term. His market value is estimated by Transfermarkt at €65m.
