Andre Gomes has always been considered to be a flop at Barcelona given a huge €37m transfer fee the Catalans paid for him. The Portuguese arrived at the Camp Nou stadium in the summer of 2016, however, he failed to settle in here and even admitted he was struggling psychologically due to an enormous pressure. Eventually, he was loaned to Everton for just €2.25m.
At Everton, meanwhile, Gomes quickly became the fans' favourite and an undisputable starter as well. His attitude and athleticism are excellent, moreover, his average passing accuracy is around 90%. No wonder the Toffees want to sign him permanently, however, Barcelona could deny them this opportunity.
Everton boss Marco Silva opens up on the possibility of this transfer during Friday's press conference: "He's enjoyed his first two months but let's see what we can do. We are working on it, I don't know if I have answer in one week or two weeks. It is not something that it is in our hands, not just in the hands of Andre, there is a third party as well. Barcelona are included, let's see when we can talk about the situation."
Silva finishes up: "Gomes is helping the team a lot and is getting better all the team. It's also important for me that he takes responsibility."
Gomes' release clause is reported to be up to 100 million euros, however, Barcelona could possibly let him leave for a more affordable sum. Transfermarkt price the 25-year-old at 15 million euros which is a fair price for his services.
