Revealed: Why Jorginho chose Chelsea over Man City
- The player almost joined The Citizens from Napoli last summer but the clubs didn't agree on the terms of the transfer
- The Italian's mom admits it was she who advised her son to join The Blues due to the club's history
Jorginho became Maurizio Sarri's first transfer at Chelsea after the manager's appointment in July. However, before rejoining the Italian with who the midfielder had spent five seasons in the Serie A with Napoli and won Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italia, the player was really close to moving to Manchester in order to play under Pep Guardiola.
According to his mom, it was she who advised him to choose The Blues over The Citizens: " He really wanted to play for Pep Guardiola. But it did not depend only on him, but on the clubs as well. He asked me: 'As a player, Mum, which one would you pick: Chelsea or City?' I said Chelsea because of the greatness and stronger tradition."
The midfielder's agent Joao Santos has previously admitted Napoli and City didn't manage to agree on the terms of the transfer and that's why the move never happened: "It was all done with Jorginho. There was an agreement, but there was no agreement between the clubs. All parties have to agree, and one did not. Then Chelsea asked what the situation was after Sarri arrived and Jorginho went to London."
