Arsenal coach Unai Emery delivers an update on Denis Suarez's transfer
- The Spanish manager admits that Arsenal cannot afford Denis's permanent move from Barcelona this winter.
- The Gunners could only loan a player.
- Barcelona reportedly want to sell the midfielder to avoid Rafinha-Inter situation.
"We cannot sign permanently. We can only loan players," Emery explained at a news conference on Thursday afternoon.
"I don’t know his situation now," he said when asked about Denis Suarez. "We can only sign players later on. I know the club is working on possibilities of which players can help us with big performances like we need now."
Earlier, Denis Suarez has been included in the 18-man squad to face Levante in the first leg of the Copa del Rey round of 16. This announcement has led to the conclusion that the midfielder's transfer to Arsenal is not on the cards at the moment.
Barcelona want to sell the player who hasn't started a single game in La Liga or the Champions League this season. However, Arsenal are only interested in loaning Denis until the end of the season with a purchase option.
If Arsenal seriously can’t “afford” £20 million for Denis Suarez. Then I really consider that we all fans boycott the home games to show Kroenke that we’re not giving you lot any money if your not gonna spend a penny. A loan deal for Suarez? What? Are we Fulham? #Kroenkeout— Olle Le Moine (@OlleLeMoine) January 6, 2019
Barca are not inspired by the Premier League side's offer as they keep in mind the last summer's negative experience with Rafinha's failed departure to Inter Milan. The Brazilian played for the Nerazzurri in the second half of the season 2017/18 and intended to stay in Italy but Inter were not able to complete the transfer because of financial issues and Rafinha went back to Barcelona.
