- There has been a new spike of coronavirus cases in Germany over the last few days.
The Covid-19 situation in Germany has worsened over the last few days, prompting the government officials to delay the return of the top-flight football in the country.
The 2019/20 Bundesliga campaign was initially supposed to resume on May 9 but the final decision has now been pushed back until next Wednesday, which means that the season will not restart until at least May 16.
Speaking about easing the coronavirus restrictions after allowing shops, schools and churches to reopen, Chancellor Angela Merkel said: "We have achieved so much, but we are not out of the woods yet, and we cannot gamble it all away."
However, all Bundesliga games will be played behind closed doors should football return to action with the country's government banning large events with crowds until October.
