  • Matteo Guendouzi choking Neal Maupay at full time of Arsenal's 2-1 loss to Brighton stole the headlines in the aftermath.
  • Maupay called the Gunners arrogant in his post game interview by suggesting they should learn humility.
  • It looks like his words were pointed at Guendouzi, who's apparently been taunting Brighton players during the game.
  • Maupay himself was responsible for an inflicting a severe injury upon Bernd Leno during the first half.

Matteo Guendouzi choking Brighton's striker Neal Maupay on the whistle of Arsenal's 2-1 Saturday loss at the Amex was questionable in itself. Now it looks like his behaviour during the match was not exemplary either.

"He was saying the Brighton players were s*** and that he and his team-mates earn so much more than they ever will," a source told Daily Mail. "He's done it in other games as well. Arsenal are a decent club and hate that sort of behaviour."

Guendouzi escaped a ban from the FA because Martin Atkinson didn't see the incident and it will be interesting to see whether Mikel Arteta lets him off the hook as well. Our guess is that the Spaniard is limited in his midfield choices as is, with Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira out injured and Dani Ceballos not exactly impressive.

Regarding Guendouzi's behaviour, the public opinion split down the middle, with some saying that's unacceptable and others hailing the Frenchman for showing a bit of character in an otherwise listless Arsenal team.

We suspect Guendouzi's taunting might have had something to do with Maupay injuring Bernd Leno during the first half with a snide foul. But overall it looks like the winding up players do all the time on the pitch, so we wouldn't hand Matteo out to dry for this.
