TalkSport: Holding to join Newcastle on loan this week - 3 reasons to feel good about it

Rob Holding put in a solid performance vs Liverpool days ago but is expected to join Newcastle on loan this week regardless, TalkSport claim. We have found 3 reasons not to feel sad about the Englishman's departure.

1. It's a loan, not a permanent move

Let's start with the obvious, shall we? Both TalkSport and The Athletic earlier report that Holding's deal will be temporary. So we are not losing him forever, just for this season.

2. He needs game time

Holding is yet to make 15 league appearances in a single season for Arsenal and the situation is unlikely to get better in 2020/21. We have Saliba and Gabriel as the new kids on the block, Luiz on an extended deal and Mustafi and Chambers who'll be hard to shift on due to injuries.

However, when Holding returns in a season, the situation can be completely different. We can easily see him take over from Luiz - if the Brazilian is still a regular by that point.

3. He'll enjoy healthy, but not insurmountable competition

Newcastle have a lot of centre-backs (6, to be precise), but only Federico Fernandez and Jamaal Lascelles played more than half the minutes available. The latter, along with Fabian Schar, is currently injured - a common theme for the Magpies' defence last season.

Holding won't walk into this defence as first-choice most likely but he most certainly will have an opportunity to prove his worth down the line, if he stays fit.
