Arteta: Arsenal might sign 2 goalkeepers after Martinez's departure

Arsenal might end up signing two goalkeepers (unfortunately, not for the price of one) after Mikel Arteta all but confirmed Runar Alex Runarsson's arrival and hinted the Gunners will be in the market even after that.

"Obviously with the departure of Emi, which is a big loss and someone that I think we all wish the best to for what he has done for the football club as well as the person that he is - we have to replace him. We are looking in the market and I think we will shortly in a position to announce a new signing." Arteta told the club's official website.

"It depends on what is going to happen with our third goalkeeping position as well because we had some talks about that over the past few months so still the market is open and things can change."

This opens up several possibilities: it could be that Runarsson becomes the second choice behind Leno with another keeper providing depth and replacing Matt Macey whose contract will soon expire; or, Runarsson could become the third choice and someone like David Raya is brought in to deputise for the German

Time will tell. We do know Brentford turned down Arsenal's £10m opening offer for Raya. Looks like Emi's departure was not part of Arteta's plan, otherwise we wouldn't be looking to spend a good chunk of his fee on a backup shot-stopper.
