Partey to become third Ghanaian to play for Arsenal — here is how his compatriots fared

Arsenal are a truly international bunch, and our new boy Thomas Partey adds to the diversity in the squad.

After he makes his first appearance for the Gunners, he will become the third player from Ghana to feature for the Gunners.

The first was Quincy Owusu-Abeyie. The forward joined Arsenal from Ajax as a 16-year-old and rose through the ranks to make 23 first-team appearances.

He even managed to score 2 goals for the Gunners before moving on to Spartak Moscow in 2006. Quincy earned 17 caps for Ghana and hang his boots in 2017 after a season for NEC Nijmegen. He is pursuing a music career as a rapper now.

The second was Emmanuel Frimpong and his story is somewhat similar to that of Owusu-Abeyie. The Hale End product made his senior debut for the Gunners at the age of 19 in 2011.

The midfielder went on to make 16 Arsenal appearances before joining Barnsley. Interestingly, like Quincy, he also went to Russia, playing for FC Ufa and... Arsenal. You read it right—there is a Russian side called Arsenal Tula.

Frimpong retired in 2019. He played one game for Ghana.

It also has to be noted that Eddie Nketiah is of Ghanaian origin and is tracked by Ghana national team. 42-time England international Danny Welbeck, who played for Arsenal between 2014 and 2019, was born to Ghanaian parents in Manchester.

Overall, we hope Partey becomes the first Ghanaian player to truly shine for the Gunners.
