'Ozil is free to negotiate with other clubs': Arteta coy on whether German will leave this January

Mesut Ozil's situation at Arsenal is once again making the headlines: this January the German can already negotiate a pre-contract agreement with other clubs.

Whether Ozil will actually leave is a different matter entirely though and Mikel Arteta played his cards close to his chest on this one.

"I don't know what is going to happen. Obviously now he's free to negotiate with other clubs. We will discuss internally what the best situation for him is for the near future, obviously with the player and the agent too, and try to find the best solution for everyone," he told Arsenal.com.

"If something is sorted this month, it’s because it is good for both parties, it is good for Mesut and his future, and it’s good for the club. If that’s the case, we will move forward, if it's not the case the player will stay here."

Earlier, the Spaniard made it pretty clear that Ozil is unlikely to see much action - if at all - this season. David Ornstein then confirmed that chances are slim that Mesut will play competitive football for Arsenal with a huge lack of game practice.

Ozil has since been linked with a switch to Fenerbahce and DC United, more strongly with the former. DHA even reported the details of his contract agreement with the Turkish side and what influenced Ozil's choice.
