Arsenal not willing to pay any part of Ozil's salary should he leave this January (reliability: 5 stars)
  • Arsenal will not subsidise Mesut Ozil's wages should he depart the club this transfer window, the Guardian report.
  • The German is on Fenerbahce's and DC United's radar by the looks of it, with the Turkish giants currently winning the race for his signature.
  • However, they will not be able to pay his massive £350k-a-week wages: instead he'll earn around £90k-per-week.
  • Fenerbahce wanted Ozil to join this window on a 3,5-year deal, so they are working on a solution around the salary issue.
  • The original report about Ozil striking a deal with Fenerbahce stated that he'd join immediately but Arsenal will pay his wages for the first 6 months.
  • We'd be really surprised if the Gunners did such a thing, however: common sense dictates they should be able to rely on the player if they are paying his wages, at least in the future if not right now.
