Arsenal vs Burnley preview: lineups, manager quotes, stats and more

Team news

The only question mark for the game is Emile Smith Rowe - who faces a late fitness test. Alex Runarsson has recovered from a knee strain but we'll be surprised to see him make the squad.

Burnley will be without Ashley Barnes, while Gudmundsson, Brady and Cork are all touch-and-go for the game.

Probable Arsenal lineup

Arteta seems to have found the XI he likes - we suspect he'll stick to it, replacing Smith Rowe with Willian if the former fails to recover.

However, Cedric, Pepe and Mari certainly made Mikel's job harder as they delivered stellar performances vs Leicester - while Martin Odegaard underwhelmed.

Starting XI: Leno, Bellerin, Luiz, Gabriel, Tierney, Xhaka, Partey, Saka, Odegaard, Willian, Aubameyang

Stats to know

  • Arsenal have not lost at Turf Moor in 8 league games, keeping clean sheets in 4 of the last 5.
  • The Gunners have conceded just 7 goals from the Clarets in 13 meetings - never more than 1 per game.
  • Burnley have registered just one win in the last 8 league matches.
  • Only bottom-placed Sheffield have scored fewer goals than Burnley (19).
  • Arsenal have won 4 of their last 6 away matches - as many as in 18 games before that.
  • Aubameyang has netted 7 goals vs Burnley - the most against a single PL opponent.

Managers' quotes

Mikel Arteta (via Arsenal.com)

"It’s a really tough match, I think it’s remarkable what the club, Sean and the coaching staff have done in recent years with the resources that they have, the style of play they have implemented and how well they execute it and how efficient they are.

"It is always really tough to play against them, at home it was a tricky game because we played with 10 men and we ended up losing on a set piece, which is a big part of the game, so hopefully we can have a very different result."

Sean Dyche (via Burnley YouTube)

"The last game doesn't guarantee the next one, especially when you are playing good teams like Arsenal. They've got some very good individuals - and a very good manager.

"He's getting the team where he wants it to be. They are not as high up the table as they want to be but it's refreshing that Arsenal have given Mikel Arteta the chance to mold the team. There have been some ups and downs, but they're a very good outfit and a top side."
