'Was Emery's "project" and received favouritism from manager': Fan explains why he doesn't want Matteo Guendouzi back

"I don't understand why fans like Guendozi. To me he offers very little," TOM B. wrote on The Athletic.

"He doesn't track midfield runners, I remember a game away at Watford and away to Rennes in the Europa League where he was jogging leisurely as Doucoure of Watford breezed past him to receive the ball which ended in a goal conceded.

"His positional awareness was zero, he is easily drawn to the ball and pulled out of position, no wonder our midfield used to look like a big void where opposition teams easily advanced to our final third.

"He is also the king of sideways passes and his dribbling/traveling with the ball slows down the game and allows the other team to get into low block positions which makes it hard to break through. If they can get a buyer for him even for £10m, they should sell him.

"People are hoping that he will improve but I did not see much improvement in the 18 months where he was one of the most used player thanks to Emery. He was Emery's 'project' and received favouritism from the manager.

"On the balance of play, I think Elneny offers more defensive nous than him. I will keep Elneny who is more athletic and has more experience in place of Guendouzi."

Matteo will enter the last year of his deal with Arsenal in the summer. Transfermakrt value him at £18m.

It seems that the 22-year-old has no future with the Gunners under Mikel Arteta and will most likely leave us in the summer.

Do you think Guendouzi would be a successful player if someone else managed the club?
