Germany staged an interesting protest in their World Cup opener against Japan in which the players put their hands over their mouths in the pre-match team photo.

When asked if Switzerland can be expected to do the same, Granit Xhaka said: “I don’t think we need to do anything as the Swiss team.

“We need to respect the rules and concentrate on our football, that’s all I intend to do. We’re here to play football and not hand out lessons to anyone.”

Xhaka will captain the Switzerland team in the World Cup and will hope they can win their opening game against Cameroon on Thursday.
