FT: Arsenal 3-0 Lyon: LIVE updates, stats, reactions, ratings & more

Arsenal win the shootout.

Four penalty saves out of six from Hein.

Cherki with a laughably bad panenka attempt at the end of the shootout for Lyon.

So Arsenal get the extra point as well. A good night's work.

Summary of the Game

The Gunners began the game on the front foot. The Gunners had a flurry of opportunities but lacked a cutting edge in the final third.

However, Gabriel's opener changed things. Arsenal attacked continuously, catching Lyon on the break. Nketiah and Vieira were on target.

There wasn't much change in the second half as Mikel Arteta gave game time to his youngsters.

90. Now is time for penalties...

79' Nwaneri shoots wide. Cirjan then hits the post before a B-Oyedeji shot is deflected wide.

70' The Gunners still very comfortable.

subs: Walters, Foran, Sousa, Smith, Nwaneri, Lewis-Skelly, Cirjan, Cozier-Duberry & Butler-Oyedeji ON. Cedric, Holding, Gabriel, Tierney, Elneny, Lokonga; Nelson, Ødegaard, Nketiah OFF.

57' Elneny comes close...

52' The Gunners resume from where they stopped in the first half. Marquinhos's strong effort hit the cross bar.

Arsenal sub: Marquinhos on, Vieira off.

Oribnho: "Arsenal with 10 shots to Lyon's two in that first half."

The commentator just said "it was like a training game for Arsenal in the first half". I think that's exactly what it is isn't?

We're back...

Charles Watts: "Nketiah did really well with his back to goal right at the start of this move when a ball was drilled into him. Bits of play like that is going to just as important as goals over the next couple of months. He has to be much more than just a penalty box striker in Jesus' absence."

Half-Time Player Ratings

Good: Odegaard - 9, Vieira - 9, Gabriel - 9, Nketiah 7, Lokonga -7

Average: Elneny - 6, Nelson - 6, Soares - 6, Holding - 6, Tierney 6, Hein - 6

A brief summary of the first half:

The Gunners started strongly, pressing as they have done this season. They had a flurry of opportunities but lacked a cutting edge in the final third.

However, Gabriel's opener changed things. Arsenal attacked continuously, catching Lyon on the break. Nketiah and Vieira were on target.

We expect changes in the second half.

37' Vieira makes it three.

Eduardo Hagn: "Wonderful goal. What a pass from Fábio Vieira."

33' He converts this time. Nketiah scores after a superb counter attack from Vieira.

31' Nketiah misses a great opportunity to double the lead.

Kaya Kaynak: "#AFC have started with a really good tempo here. That little spell was the first time Lyon had got out of their half pretty much. Certainly don't look like a team who's been off for nearly a month."

23' Beautiful counter attack by Arsenal. Tierney unable to convert Odegaard's pass.

22' Injury scar for Nketiah. He seems to b fine...

Eduardo Hagn: "Gabriel, you don’t know how much I missed you! What a header."

Charles Watt (Twitter): "Nice header from Gabriel to make it 1-0 from Odegaard's corner. Vieira had seen a good chance saved just before. Nelson has also hit the post. A deserved lead for Arsenal."

17' Gabriel heads home Odegaard's cross. Arsenal lead.

15' Nelson, Nketiah and Vieira causing Lyon problem.

10' Lyon with an opportunity of their own, blocked by Holding.

5' The Gunners dominate the early stages... Nelson's ferocious strike hits the bar.
