- Pjanic's age: Miralem already turned 30 last month which makes him older than any of the current Chelsea midfielders (Jorginho is 2 years younger).
- Declining impact: the Juventus star has only provided 2 assists for his club this season, by far the worst figure during his time in Turin.
- Similar playing styles: both Jorginho and Pjanic are deep-lying playmakers who do not excel defensively; a swap would do nothing to deal with this issue.
- Jorginho's status: the Italy international is Chelsea's vice-captain and one of the most vocal players on the pitch; the Bosnian might not replace him in this regard.
- Money issue: Chelsea signed Jorginho for €60m, Juventus bought Pjanich for just €32m: if this is a direct swap, Chelsea lose financially.
- Development block: Pjanic's arrival would make it difficult for Billy Gilmour, Conor Gallagher and others to believe that the club counts on them in the foreseeable future.
