N'Golo Kante's breakfast routine is elementary – 3 recipes you too should try to eat like world champion

A World Cup winner, a 2-time Premier League winner, a former PFA Player of the Year, the best defensive midfielder in the world for quite some time - N'Golo Kante is a very accomplished individual.

And as with all great footballers, Kante has a routine in his life that makes him so successful on the field. We all know how important diet is to an athlete's lifestyle - however, Kante's diet proves that eating right does not have to be as complicated as you might think.

When interviewed by Chelseafc.com back in 2017 regarding his choice of breakfast, the midfielder replied: "Not eggs and beans like the English! I just have cereal and milk, and some fruit sometimes."

As the Wheaties breakfast cereal slogan goes, cereal is the 'breakfast of champions' - a theory proven by Kante!

Wondering what Kante has for lunch? He has an answer for you: "Usually when I eat here I have pasta, red pesto, some tomato mozzarella, and grated carrots. It’s the same before a game."

We were imagining a lot of boiled chicken with some eggs, milk and other protein on the side - but clearly, the French international keeps it simple. He did not say what he has for dinner, but it might be fair to assume that it's a dish like a lasagna with some sweet potato and a strawberry shake on the side!

Keeping Kante's recommendations in mind, here are 3 healthy recipes you can use in your daily routine too:

1) Pea pesto pappardelle - Kante loves pasta and pesto, and this vegetarian combination that involves only 5 ingredients (pappardelle, fresh or frozen peas, lemon zest, ricotta and chopped chives) is easy to make and it's quite delicious as well!

2) Oatmeal - The French international didn't mention exactly which brand of cereal he consumes. You could, of course, go for the classic Kellogs or Cadbury cereals but oatmeal is a healthier substitute is great for those suffering with high cholesterol and diabetes. It tastes good too as you can add bananas or strawberry with it - just don't add too much extra sugar!

3) Immune-boosting breakfast fruits plate: Kiwi, grapefruit, and strawberries can give your immune system the boost it needs to keep you healthy. Breakfast needs to be healthy and give you energy, and this combination of fruits will do exactly that! Rich in vitamin C and A, these fruits also contain minerals that support immune function.

A few unorthodox choices by everyone's favourite Chelsea man, but hey, when you can run as much and play as well as Kante can, no dietician in the world can say anything negative regarding what we call the diet of champions!
