3 uncanny similarities between Lampard's current situation and Mourinho's final days at Chelsea

Leicester to end it yet again?

Jose Mourinho's final game in his second spell in charge of Chelsea was a 2-1 loss to eventual champions Leicester in December 2015.

Frank Lampard's job also seems to be gone after a 2-0 loss to Leicester, who are now incidentally on top of the league.

Former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri managed Leicester that season and Brendan Rodgers, the current Leicester boss, has also been a coach at Chelsea earlier in his career.

Intense Pressure

Frank Lampard has been under the cosh since back-to-back losses to end 2020. The Chelsea legend has led the club to 5 losses in 8 games and seems to be clueless about how to right the ship with the Blues in danger of falling out of the top 10.

The only saving grace is that while it's terrible it wasn't as bad as with Jose, who had the club 16th in December after 9 league losses. The Portuguese's final weeks were spent under unbearable pressure, which he himself made worse with some toxic behaviour.

Player Criticism

While it's hard to say if he's lost the dressing room, Frank Lampard has been unable to get the best out of his players this season. Poor team selection and tactics have had something to do with it but Frank called the players out after their 3-1 loss against Arsenal.

He said: "It is not tactics or systems, it is do you want to run, back your team-mate out and sprint? Or do you want to jog and say 'maybe I don't have to run' and we took that decision instead of the right one."

As with all the other things though, Jose was on a level of his own and his press conference after the Leicester loss remains the stuff of legend.

After accusing the players of betraying his work, Jose said: "I don’t think in this moment they can feel they are top players or they can feel they are superstars. They have to look at the Leicester boys and to feel these are the stars, these are the top players.

"They have to look to Sunderland and Watford and say: ‘We are at the same level. I am not the superstar, I am not the player of the season, I am not the world champion, I am not the Premier League champion. At this moment, I am at your level."
