Marquee striker signing, cheeky move for Sancho? 2 possible scenarios for Chelsea’s summer transfer business

With just over a week remaining in the 2020/21 season, many clubs are already looking forward to the summer transfer window.

Chelsea enjoyed an amazing summer window last season – spending more than £150m on a host of big names. Roman Abramovich is likely to give Thomas Tuchel the money and reinforcements he requires to help the Blues compete for the Premier League title next season.

So let’s look at 2 possible scenarios fans could see in the summer:

1. Dream scenario

When a club has someone like Roman as its owner, a fan can always dream of big things! Chelsea have already been linked to some world-class names to sign in the summer – but it looks like Borussia Dortmund's goal machine Erling Haaland is their top target.

If able to sign him above a number of big clubs chasing him, Chelsea will make a statement of intent about how they want to dominate Europe in years to come. But what will be better than one Dortmund superstar? Two Dortmund superstars!

Jadon Sancho is also a summer target for the Blues and they’re reportedly ready to pay £80m for his services. If able to sign both attackers, you can expect to see goals galore. But Tuchel also wants to bolster Chelsea’s defence for next season.

Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Gimenez is reportedly Chelsea’s ‘dream signing’ for the summer and could be bought for a formidable fee.

It’s been reported that Tuchel also wants to sign a Cesc Fabregas type of midfielder next season. PSG midfielder Marco Veratti is someone who Tuchel can opt to reunite with – as the Italian midfielder has all the traits to excel at Chelsea.

So in our dream scenarios, here are Chelsea’s possible signings for the summer window:

  • Erling Haaland
  • Jadon Sancho
  • Jose Gimenez
  • Marco Veratti

Here’s what the Blues’ line-up for the next season could look like if every transfer happens.

2. Realistic scenario

Despite all the exciting transfer rumours, one has to stay realistic in the current transfer market. With the Covid-19 pandemic affecting every team’s financials, Chelsea’s are no different. But even if the Blues decide not to splurge huge, they could still get some good deals done.

Because of Haaland’s incredible wage demands (reportedly £500,000-a-week) and Dortmund demanding over £120m to sell him – Chelsea could opt for go for a cheaper player in Romelu Lukaku. Tuchel is said to be a big fan of the Belgian forward and Inter Milan could sell him as they’re in a financially weak position.

The Blues are also said to be interested in signing Sevilla defender Jules Kounde. An aggressive, proactive defender – he can fit into the backline really well.

So Chelsea’s realistic signings for the summer window can be:

  • Romelu Lukaku
  • Jadon Sancho
  • Jules Kounde

Here is how the team could be set up using all three of them.
