Could Hudson-Odoi switch allegiance to Ghana after 3 England apps? You asked, we answered

Callum Hudson-Odoi is currently vacationing in Ghana with his father, who was a great player in the nation's top division of football.

The attacker was recently snubbed from the England squad for the Euros and then came out and said that he has not ruled out changing his allegiances and playing for the Ghana national team.

A few fans asked whether or not this is possible, so here's an explanation as to why it is.

How is this possible?

FIFA rules state that Hudson-Odoi would be able to represent Ghana in the future, as he has not played more than three senior matches for England.

The Chelsea youngster has made only 3 appearances for the Three Lions, with the last one coming on November 17, 2019.

All of these appearances came before the age of 21, which is what FIFA requires if you want to switch over.

When can he play for Ghana?

However, there's a catch to all this - the last appearance made for any other nation would have to be at least 3 years prior to his date of application.

This would mean that the earliest Hudson-Odoi can apply to play for the Ghana national team would be November 17, 2022 - just a few days before the World Cup starts!

Should Hudson-Odoi decide to make this switch, he would be following the footsteps of players like Wilfried Zaha, who chose Ivory Coast over England due to limited chances with the latter.
