'I would say yes': Fabrizio Romano provides major update on Chelsea's hunt for Jules Kounde (reliability: 5 stars)

"I would say yes because Chelsea are really really pushing for Jules Kounde," Fabrizio Romano has told Sky Sports when asked if he can see the Blues signing the Sevilla centre-back.

"Tottenham wanted the player, they had an agreement in place with Sevilla but the player wants to play the Champions League football and that's why Chelsea are now absolutely leading the race.

"They are now the frontrunners for Kounde and he now has an agreement on personal terms with Chelsea.

"It's a matter of days to understand if Sevilla accept the proposal from Chelsea. They offer around €30-35m and Kurt Zouma as a part of the deal, Sevilla want more than this - around €40-45m plus Kourt Zouma.

"We'll see if they can find an agreement with Zouma or without the player or just including money. They are negotiating on this but he's the priority now for Chelsea as a centre-back and I think they will try and try again this week because also Kounde wants to join Chelsea."

Kounde arrived at Sevilla in a €25m move from Bordeaux in 2019. The Frenchman's heroics with the Andalusians have helped him to establish himself among Europe's best centre-backs since then.

Earlier it was claimed the Sevilla value the 22-year-old at €80m.
