'It's hard to say if it's a mistake': Arsenal director Edu on signing Willian from Chelsea

Former Chelsea man Willian left Arsenal during this transfer window to go play in his homeland, Brazil, for Corinthians.

Having moved across London, the move was somewhat controversial but the Brazilian could never replicate the quality he showed with the Blues for the Gunners.

Now, Arsenal director Edu has explained the reason behind signing Willian and what went wrong to Sky Sports.

He said: "The decision with Willian was to sign someone with experience, with a lot of Premier League games and to impact the team straight away.

"In the end of the season, me and Mikel say 'how are you? because I need you much more consistent, what's happening?' and he said he was not 100 per cent comfortable.

"When I listened to that and when Mikel listened to that we made the decision to say 'okay, we don't want a player here that is not 100 per cent comfortable, not 100 per cent with the team, it is my business to try and find the best solution.

"If it's a mistake or not, it's hard to say. You wouldn't know if our season had been better with everyone being more consistent. But the most important thing is that we tried what we tried."

It was more or less obvious that Willian only moved to Arsenal so that he would be able to stay in London, so this outcome is no surprise.

His hand in helping make our rivals even worse just adds to the hilarity from a Chelsea perspective.
