Champions League return & 4 other big topics to follow in September

The international break is almost over and club football will return this weekend - here is Tribuna.com's list of things Chelsea fans have most to look forward to in September:

Champions League football returns

There's nothing quite as enjoyable as hearing the Champions League anthem while your team walks out to play some of Europe's best oppositions. And, of course, as defending champions, Chelsea fans will be more excited than anyone else to get things underway!

Chelsea have a good group this time around, with Zenit, Juventus and Malmo as the opponents. Our first Champions League game will be up against Zenit at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, September 14.

This will be followed by a visit to Italy to face Juventus on September 29. Wins in both of these games would set us up very well to qualify for the next stage of the tournament.

English League Cup begins

Not really the most prestigious tournament in the world, but the English League Cup is always a good chance to field a few youngsters and hand them some match experience.

Our game will be up against Aston Villa on September 23 at home. We can expect to see a few academy players in this game, as well as the likes of Hakim Ziyech who have not gotten a lot of playing time in the Premier League so far.

2 big Premier League clashes

We only have 3 Premier League games this month but 2 of them can be season-defining despite it being so early this season!

The Blues will take on Tottenham Hotspur away from home on September 19. Spurs are undefeated so far, having won all 3 of their opening games in the competition.

This will be followed up by Manchester City visiting Stamford Bridge on September 25. The Cityzens are the defending champions and will no doubt want to beat their main title contenders - it should be a massive game!

Saul's debut

Saul Niguez was signed on deadline day and he has been training with a few members of the squad throughout the international break.

We're not sure when the midfielder will make his debut for the Blues but with 6 games this month, we do expect to see Saul at some point.

Lukaku's Stamford Bridge return

The Blues will host Aston Villa on September 11 and we can expect to see Lukaku start the game if the scan for his 'minor issue' isn't anything to worry about.

This will be our world-record signing's first home game and with the fans back in full capacity, we can expect a glorious scene!
