Jorginho has revealed in an interview with the Champions Journal that he nearly quit on football at the age of 15 – when he played for Hellas Verona.
He said: “I rang home crying a lot and said, ‘I’ve had enough. Football isn’t for me – I want to quit, I want to go home, I just want to play football for fun and that’s that.
“It was then I was fortunate enough to have the family I have, because they said, ‘No, you’re not coming back. You’re so close to making it.’ And, fortunately, they convinced me to not go back.”
Jorginho had to fight against severe home-sickness to climb to the top of Italian football before Chelsea came calling.
The Italian midfielder has enjoyed a pretty good career for the Blues, making over 100 appearances and winning multiple trophies – including the Champions League last season!
Jorginho is a serious contender for the Ballon d’Or award this year and has been backed by multiple Italian legends to win it.
