5 appealing free agents Chelsea could sign on pre-contract in January

We are not far away from the beginning of the January transfer window. While Chelsea have a very strong squad right now, there is always room for improvement.

Next summer, a lot of top stars from across Europe will be free agents. As things stand, Chelsea can sign a pre-contract with any non-Premier League player whose contract will expire at the end of this season.

We take a look at a few of these players who the Blues might want to add to their squad:

Kylian Mbappe

Well, this one is a no-brainer. While Mbappe will most likely want to move to Real Madrid, his dream club, Chelsea would be missing out if they did not even try to sign the world-class forward.

Mbappe is one of the world's most marketable athletes and is already one of the best players in the game at the age of just 22.

Pace, strength and top finishing - he has it all and he would elevate Chelsea's attack to the next level.

Paulo Dybala

The Juventus forward has still not signed a new deal with his club. There are rumours that Hakim Ziyech will leave Chelsea in January while Timo Werner's future is uncertain too, given his lack of playing time here.

Dybala is an accomplished forward who can play the false 9 role as well as play out wide when needed. A versatile and intelligent attacker, he would be excellent under Thomas Tuchel's 3-5-2 system next to Romelu Lukaku.

Niklas Sule

Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger's deals end soon and there is no progress on either's contract extension yet. While Trevoh Chalobah and Malang Sarr are promising players, they're not quite at Sule's level yet.

Sule has been one of Bayern's best defenders over the past few seasons and at the age of 26, has a lot of great years ahead of him. He's built like a mountain and can cope with the physicality of the Premier League while being a great option from set-pieces.

Chelsea should definitely consider a move for him - his experience is another great positive!

Franck Kessie

Chelsea have already been linked with the defensive midfielder and it's easy to see why. At the age of 24, Kessie is just entering his prime and would be a perfect long-term replacement for either Jorginho or N'Golo Kante.

He is valued at €55.00m and to get him on a free deal would be a masterclass. Strong and physical, a good passer with great work rate, Kessie might be the X-factor we need to make our midfield even more complete.

And perhaps the best part? He has missed only 4 games due to injury since his AC Milan debut. With Chelsea's injury concerns already this season, a durable player like him would be welcome.

Denis Zakaria

Denis Zakaria is about 1.90m tall while his physical ability is among his best attributes. The 24-year-old Gladbach player is on the radar of a couple of big European clubs such as Barcelona already.

In the last few years, Zakaria has played as a central midfielder, a defensive midfielder and a centre-back. He is especially good at the DM spot but also has the capabilities to play box-to-box like Kante does at the moment.

At Gladbach, Zakaria makes about €65,000 per week and the Blues can easily afford a better contract to lure him here.
