Revealed: How much can Chelsea spend in transfer window under FFP rules

A study done by Kieran Maguire, a lecturer in football finance at the University of Liverpool, estimates what each Premier League club could spend and still stay within the Financial Fair Play limit.

The analysis of FFP is based on the most recently published financial figures, mostly from 2020.

He explains: "FFP allows clubs to make a loss, which is made up by wealthy owners, of £105m over three years. However, turning a profit, offsetting expenditure against capital or football development projects and boosting revenues helps to stretch that envelope."

And here is the table of how much each Premier League club can spend under the FFP rules - Maguire names this the 'FFP Wiggle Room' table:

Five of the Premier League's 'big six' clubs come towards the end of the table. For Chelsea, it's good news as the Blues can spend £241m over the next few transfer windows.

Moreover, this study is based on the assumption of no player sales. Chelsea (and all other clubs) will have more money to spend if they offload a few players.

The Blues have had two very strong summer transfer windows since 2020, having signed the likes of Kai Havertz and Romelu Lukaku during this time.

Thanks to our Cobham 'loan army' and the sale of other players such as Kurt Zouma and Tammy Abraham, the Blues have managed to have a great net spend and can afford to spend more during the next few windows.
