Sarr's composed defending & 5 more underrated episodes from Chesterfield victory

Chelsea beat Chesterfield 5-1 last night to comfortably advance to the next round of the FA Cup. We all saw Romelu Lukaku's goal and the other strikes, but some other moments deserve your attention.

Let's take a look at some of these underrated episodes from the game:

Hall and Kovacic's involvement in the first goal

Timo Werner opened the scoring in the first few minutes of the game. Lewis Hall and Mateo Kovacic won't get the assist for this goal but their work was important in making this happen.

Hall first intercepts a pass inside the Chelsea box and runs forward before passing the ball to Kovacic:

Kovacic dribbles half the length of the field while escaping tackles from the opponent before passing it out wide to Ziyech:

Ziyech's shot is saved by the keeper but then Werner is right there is to tap in the rebound and thus began Chelsea's scoring.

Hall's strong defending in the box

It's hard to believe that debutant Hall is just 17. Not only did he pass well, he defended with the maturity of a man ten years more experienced.

An example is this set piece - Chesterfield lobbed the ball in and an attacker made a good run. However, Hall was there to put pressure on him which resulted in a heavy touch and the ball eventually going out for a goal kick:

Hall's midfield dribbling run

Thomas Tuchel started Hall as the left-side defender in a back 3. However, the teenager's preferred role is a midfielder and he showed that with some strong runs yesterday.

In this instance, Hall collects the ball and manages to skip past a couple of defenders and challenges before laying the ball for Lukaku:

Lukaku passes to Ziyech, who sadly can't get a shot off. The scoreline was 4-0 at this time, so Hall's directness is appreciated!

Saul's superb one-touch pass

Saul Niguez had a great game in the win against Spurs and he was good in this match too. Saul collected the ball and with his first touch, his pass was inch-perfect and reached Kai Havertz on the wing:

Havertz's subsequent pass wasn't the best and hit the first man in the box. Good vision and execution from Saul though!

Sarr's calm defending during final minutes

Malang Sarr also had a good game and deserves an episode of his own here. The centre-back was admittedly up against a non-league side but kept his composure across the game.

During the 90th minutes, a long ball was lobbed up and Sarr was the only centre-back there with the striker running ahead of him:

Sarr accelerated and was able to get ahead of his man, chest the ball down into space and pass back to the keeper:

Chesterfield score and their fans go wild

This is the first and probably the last time you'll see an opponent's goal here! However, it deserves a place - the travelling Chesterfield fans were amazing with the atmosphere they created and their fans went ballistic when their team was able to score.

Take a look at the goal here and what it meant for the away fans and the players:
