Remembering Zola's words about Lukaku and Werner after another poor attacking display from Chelsea

Chelsea won the Champions League last season and were supposed to have taken the next step when they signed Romelu Lukaku this summer.

However, at the time, Blues legend Gianfranco Zola had spoken about the issue, saying the team was possibly better off relying on Werner.

"Chelsea played an extraordinary season last year but they always paid attention to the fact that they were missing a goalscorer, they often created scoring chances and in some games they were penalized enough," Zola had said to Tuttomercato.

"Lukaku arrives to fill that shortcoming but I liked Chelsea as they were: Werner did a dirty job for everyone else and the reason he won the Champions League is because he put others in a position to do well.

"I'm curious to see Lukaku, but I liked Chelsea as it was. "

After another horrible showing from the Belgian and the attack, these words are starting to sound wiser than ever.

Lukaku can still come good for the Blues but perhaps the attack could function better without him for a while.
