23 players currently on loan, 16 may never come back to Chelsea

Chelsea are known for their policy of signing a lot of playing and loaning them out. Here's a quick look at the Blues' loan army and what the future holds for them.

May never come back again

Levi Colwill (Huddersfield), Ian Maatsen (Coventry), Dujon Sterling (Blackpool), Juan Familia-Castillo (Charlton), Nathan Baxter (Hull City), Jamie Cumming (MK Dons), Bryan Fiabema (Rosenborg), Karlo Zyger (Rudar Velenje), Ethan Wady (Hendon Town), Henry Lawrence (AFC Wimbledon). These are Chelsea U23 players who probably don't stand a chance of getting any first-team football. They will go down the familiar path of several loan spells and subsequent sale.

Jake Clarke-Salter (Coventry). The 24-year-old's contract expires this summer and the Blues would probably release him.

Matt Miazga (Alaves). The American defender is clearly not good enough for the Blues so it's likely he'll be sold in the summer.

Danny Drinkwater (Reading). Chelsea will cut their losses and part ways with Danny in the summer.

Tiemoue Bakayoko (AC Milan). It's curtains for Tiemoue at Chelsea. He's not played for Milan for three months though, so the Blues will probably have to search for a new buyer for the Frenchman in the summer.

Mishy Batshuayi (Besiktas). Do you remember he's still our player? Well, he still is. Can't see him coming back to Stamford Bridge though.

Abdul-Rahman Baba (Reading). No way he's getting a chance at Chelsea at the age of 27.

50/50

Emerson Palmieri (Lyon). The left-back was close to returning to Chelsea in the winter. His future could be either staying with Lyon or returning to Stamford Bridge for another season considering Marcos Alonso has been largely unimpressive.

Armando Broja (Southampton). The striker has shown he's good enough for the Premier League this season. But it's a big question if he'll cut it at Chelsea. Perhaps another loan is the most likely option but we can't rule out him staying at the club and fighting with Lukaku and Havertz for a place in the starting XI.

Tino Anjorin (Huddersfield). The 20-year-old is a lovely attacker but Chelsea have too many similar players so we can foresee him getting another loan before trying to carve out a place in the XI.

Ethan Ampadu (Venezia). The Welsh defender is learning the trade in Serie A with Venezia. His Chelsea contract expires in 2024 so another loan move is likely for the 21-year-old before a final decision on his future is made in 2023.

Charlie Bustow (Charlton). Chelsea signed the 18-year-old forward in January and loaned him back to Charlton. He'll probably have a future at Chelsea but after a couple of further loan moves.

Likely to return to Chelsea

Conor Gallagher (Crystal Palace). Conor is the standout loanee this season. He's enjoying a fantastic season at Crystal Palace. There are whispers that Patrick Vieira hopes to sign the midfielder in the summer but Chelsea are likely to keep their talent and give him a first-team chance.

Billy Gilmour (Norwich). The Scottish midfielder has not been particularly exciting with Norwich but he'll probably be given an opportunity to impress Tuchel in the summer.
