Potter tells Mendy to give him selection headaches after Kepa injury

Kepa is unavailable for the Zagreb game after suffering a foot injury against Brighton.

Edouard Mendy is expected to start on Wednesday evening and Graham Potter is sure the Senegalese is ready.

"He’s been great, a top professional, very supportive," the Chelsea head coach said, as quoted by the Daily Mail. "I’ve had some good chats with him.

"He was injured when we first arrived so Kepa played, and Kepa did well. He’s honest and professional enough to know sometimes you have to be patient and work hard and support the team, which is what he did. We can’t ask any more.

"He’s made sure he’s ready, he’s trained well, and he’s kept his standards high. Now he has an opportunity. It’s unfortunate for Kepa it’s come around like that, but that’s football.

"You hope to have as many difficult decisions as possible all over the team because then you have competition, you have good players pushing each other to improve, and that can only be beneficial for the team."
