Deadwood or no minutes: 5 players who must leave Chelsea in 2023

Chelsea looks every bit like a team who are regressing alarmingly after watching their title aspirations literally go up in smoke for yet another season.

The club would need to clean up shop in 2023 with a handful of players expected to leave either because they're more or less deadweight or have failed to find regular playing time.

Cesar Azpilicueta. The Spaniard is way past his prime and that's becoming more evident by the day. When every defender is fit the Chelsea captain won't get on the team. Azpi can follow Cahil's 2019 example.

Denis Zakaria. The Swiss midfielder has the attributes to excel if given a chance but he's unlikely to get that Chelsea as he's not rated. His loan deal is already looking like a mistake after just 3 months. It would get worse when Kante recovers next year.

Hakeem Ziyech. A lack of playing time has robbed Chelsea of whatever the Moroccan has to offer. From what we've seen so far it's best the club cut ties with the winger.

Christian Pulisic. The American is proving Thomas Tuchel right with his under-par performances under Graham Potter. Chelsea's expensive bet on Pulisic has not paid off and it's time for him to move on.

Jorginho. The Italian has been an ever-present face in the Chelsea team due to his durability. But J5, as some fans call him, is slow and prone to mistakes. Plus he's on the other side of 30. Chelsea can replace him with a younger and more combative midfielder. Hello, Frenkie De Jong.
