'Watching this is bittersweet': fans react as Pulisic provides assist in World Cup opener

Christian Pulisic did not impress anyone with the first half of the season at Chelsea: starting just in three Premier League games, the forward scored once and provided one assist.

He now looks willing to prove his naysayers wrong while playing for his national team. In the World Cup game against Wales, the American provided a superb assist for Timothy Weah's goal.

While most Chelsea fans are happy to see Pulisic perform like that, there are questions about why he can't replicate that at the club level.

EChaseD35: "His delivery on set pieces and crosses was pretty f**king poor, but everything else was a pleasure to watch really."

jokerhound80: "I do wish the European fans here had half the patience for him they showed for Timo and others. He was getting torn apart out there today and the ref wasn't doing him any favors, especially in the first half."

RustyKarma076: "He wasn’t at his best today, had both flashes of brilliance and made mistakes. But to be fair, he got hacked down every time the ball was at his feet, and the US weren’t able to rely on their other players to create opportunities. Partly because of the coach."

PeanutButterIsSexual: "You could see Pulisic’s form falter around 60th minute. He was fantastic first half of the game, minus set pieces, I put his 2nd half performance on Berhalter. You see your star that hasn’t played since October limping and struggling and don’t sub him out? Joke"

time-wasterrr: "Watching these international games is bittersweet. Happy for all our players, but so frustrating to see them play so well in their natural positions yet our managers consistently play them out of position."
