"I'm enjoying the best version of Thiago Silva," the Chelsea centre-back told a press conference ahead of Brazil's game against Serbia at the World Cup. "At 38, I'm going through one of the best phases of my career.
"Today I'm certainly a much better person prepared for this moment, super calm and super comfortable here, with everyone's trust.
"I’ve always been prepared for all situations and I thank the coach for naming me captain, it’s a special moment."
This is the third World Cup where Thiago Silva will play and captain his team as they are chasing the sixth trophy in the country's history.
The 38-year-old remains in fine shape which was not something many Chelsea fans expected two years ago when Silva signed his first one-year deal with the Blues.
