Chelsea are pushing to complete the signing of Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez before the January transfer deadline.
The January window officially closes on 31 January, 11 PM. That means the Blues have just over a day remaining to get the deal finalized.
However, there is actually a loophole they can capitalize on to extend the window before which they can finalize Fernandez’s signing with the Premier League.
Chelsea can register Fernandez signing after 11 PM deadline
Even though clubs are asked to complete their deadline day signings before 11 PM UK time, there is a document called ‘deal sheet’ that helps them get an extended amount of time.
A club can get a deal sheet if they are hoping to complete a signing beyond the 11 PM deadline. The club has to sign and send that sheet to the Premier League between 9 PM and 11 PM to get an extended amount of time.
So if Chelsea believe they can sign Fernandez beyond that deadline, they’ll need to send this sheet to the league.
The latest time before which a club can register a new January signing if 1 AM, 1 February. That means Chelsea could get two extra hours if needed to complete Fernandez’s signing on Tuesday.
If they are unable to register him to the league by sending all necessary documents to them before that, then they’ll have to wait until the summer to do so.
