Chelsea 2-2 Everton: LIVE updates, stats, reactions, ratings

FT. Chelsea 2-2 Everton.

Chelsea started dangerously, with Kovacic and Havertz coming very close to scoring in the opening 15 minutes.

It took the Blues 52 minutes to break the deadlock though, with Felix finishing a brilliant counter-attacking move with a drilled effort.

Pulisic had the ball in the net shortly after the opener but it was disallowed for offside.

Everton equalised in the 69th minute, with Doucoure heading the ball into the net after a corner — a typical Sean Dyche goal.

Chelsea didn't give up and won a penalty after Tarkowski fouled James inside the box. Havertz calmly dispatched.

It looked as if Chelsea won the game but Simms equalised for the visitors in the 89th minute. It was a really disgusting goal to concede, with Koulibaly and Kepa falling asleep to allow Simms to score.

Most of the time, it was a delightful performance by the Blues who deserved to win, and by a big margin. But Chelsea were too poor in front of goal and conceded an awful goal late on, which makes the result extremely frustrating.

⚽90' Everton equalise again. Simms scores. Koulibaly, who was having a fantastic game, gets beaten easily.

🔄86' Chukwuemeka and Chalobah on for Felix and Fofana.

82' McNeill with an effort from the left but it goes wide. Kepa would have saved it easily though.

🔄81' Kovacic off for RLC.

⚽76' Havertz puts the Blues back up from the spot!

Penalty to Chelsea!! James plays the ball to James inside the box and Tarkowski trips Reece.

⚽69' And Everton equalise. Doucoure. Set piece. Classic Sean Dyche this.

Emenalo: "Terrible sub [Gallagher], terrible manager. Gets the 1-0 then goes full negative like he’s 2004 Mourinho. So so predictable."

Chels HQ: "Terrible goal to concede. They'll build a literal wall in front of their box now."

FutbolChelsea: "I’m sorry but going defensive at home against Everton in the 60th minute is so unnecessary. Why wasn’t Mudryk or Madueke brought on? So frustrating."

🔄62' Pulisic off for Gallagher. Great showing by Christian and very unlucky to leave the pitch without a goal.

56' Pulisic has the ball in the net with an excellent left-footed finish but the goal is ruled out for offside — Felix, who backheeled the ball to Christian, was offside.

⚽52' Felix opens the scoring! Brilliant counter-attacking move by Chels and Joao finishes it off with an effort off the edge of the box.

Uber Chelsea FC: "Joao Felix had to hit the woodwork even when scoring."

49' Havertz's header is saved by Pickford.

46' Back underway!

Half-time whistle... Level at the break.

Mateo Kovacic nearly scored a worldie in the opening five minutes but his first-time volley went slightly wide.

Havertz had a good chance to open the scoring shortly after Kovacic's effort but his header went over.

Chelsea dominated the game throughout the first half.

Pulisic has been particularly impressive, often dropping deep and trying dangerous passes from deep, as well as getting into positions in the final third himself. It's been a brilliant game from him so far.

The defence is doing extremely well, with Fofana and Badiashile adding directness with their passing, while Koulibaly's diagonals have added danger as well. Enzo has been exceptional as always.

Felix is being inspirational with his flicks and turns but his finishing just isn't there again.

📊 Half-time ratings

Excellent: Koulibaly, Enzo, Pulisic 8, Fofana, Chilwell 7.5

Good: Badiashile, James, Kovacic 7; Havertz, Felix 6.5

Kepa N/A

45+1' Enzo with some delightful footwork to win a dangerous free-kick for the Blues.

42' Watching Koulibaly has been such a pleasure today! Fantastic tackle on McNeill to cut out what could have been a very dangerous chance for the visitors as they catch Chels on the break.

38' N'Golo Kante jogs for his first warm-up and the whole stadium cheers.

34' Felix finishes a magnificent attacking move with a good effort through Godfrey's legs but it goes straight at Pickford.

Felix with a brilliant turn!

🗣 Hannibal 09: "Joao Felix is so flithy at times"

🗣 Lopsided: "That was very slick from Felix, almost Zola-esque"

25' Everton's Onana tries to turn around Koulibaly and Kalidou takes the ball away from him as if he was a kid.

19' Wow. Kepa plays a poor pass to James, Reece retains the ball under pressure and starts a dangerous counter-attack involving Enzo and Puli with Felix screwing up the final ball.

💬 Swagezclap: "The LeBron James of soccer for a reason"

💬 Burntemu: "Enzo is amazing. He sees things others don’t and has passes that create chances that wouldn’t exist for most others."

We're past the opening 15 minutes... here are some observations off Twitter:

George Benson: "Excellent start. Front foot Badiashile and Fofana providing early overloads of both Chilwell and James drawing Everton defenders out. Great shape!"

Liam Twomey: "Striking to see Kovacic and Enzo seize on opportunities to shoot in the opening minutes. Hasn't been much of a feature of Chelsea's midfield play since Lampard's playing days"

Johyan: "A few times now where we build up in our usual 3atb but Kova drops into a lone 6 whilst Pulisic drops into midfield & Felix & Havertz seemingly becomes split strikers"

Guess who's in attendance?

11' Havertz wins a header after a brilliant Chilwell corner... but Kai's effort flies over. Another good chance.

💬 CFCChris: "Joao Felix is superb. He’s a player why people watch and enjoy football. Haven’t seen exciting stuff like this since Zola and Hazard."

5' Chance for Chels! Kovacic nearly scores with a first-time effort from outside the box but drags his effort inches wide!

3' Enzo with an effort from outside the box after Chilwell does well to dispossess Iwobi at Everton's corner flag. Chelsea's first shot on goal.

1' We're underway!

🗣 Sean Dyche talks Chelsea: "Three good results. They've still got quality. We know we have to be at our best performance levels."

💬 Potter on team news: "It's great to have Christian and N'Golo back. Christian starts the game having come on in recent weeks and NG is back among the substitutes, so it's great to have them both involved with the squad.

"They've worked hard and battled back from injury well. NG, in particular, has had a really bad time with injuries so it's nice to have him back because he's a really big player for us and someone we've missed."

📢 Here's Chelsea's squad for the game.

Subs: Bettinelli, Cucurella, Chalobah, Chukwuemeka, Loftus-Cheek, Kante, Gallagher, Madueke, Mudryk

I think the team is good but I hope to see Mudryk and Mudueke coming on in the 2nd half and the long awaited return of Kante. Maybe James won't play full game and Cucurella will come on as well .

he has no choice the squad is to big and he needs to make everyone there feel included the last thing we need is for certain players creating problems for the team because there not getting opportunities

What a limp performance. Very poor passing and final 3rd passing. Very lethargic once it gets to the final 3rd. Poor poor decision making from the forwards and midfield. They should involve Reece James more in the game also

The only one reason why João Felix is yet to register an assist in CFC is because he is quite selfish. He really likes to get on score sheet. I really hope it doesn't hurt CFC against R.Madrid.

Honestly, the guy is just overhyped. No wonder he was having it tough under Simone.

I wouldn’t say he’s overhyped! He’s actually a good player! He’s just a of Neymar kind of player! That’s why simeone had issues with him.
